Mesa’s Falcon Field Wants To See More Private Jets

You won’t find commercial airlines flying in and out of Falcon Field, but Mesa expects to see more private jets.

For the next 40 years, the city will lease 23 acres near McDowell and Greenfield Roads to Davcon Aviation and Mesa Hangar. The project will include nearly 340,000 square feet of aircraft hangar space along with office space and parking areas.

Initial design concepts show hangars ranging from 5,000 to 60,000 square feet to accommodate corporate jets, specialized planes and helicopters.

Lynn Spencer, airport economic development project manager, said nearly all current hangar space is occupied.

“Falcon Field has been approached by over 50 companies in the past two years wanting to expand or relocate but hasn’t had the aircraft hangar space available to accommodate them,” she said in a prepared statement.

“We will get this project off the ground as quickly as possible with spec buildings and will continuously discuss space needs with potential tenants to further refine additional buildings as they go up,” David Wakefield, managing partner at Davcon Aviation, said in a prepared statement.

The project is expected to be designed and phased based on business needs with completion by November 2021.

Falcon Fieldis a city-owned airport managed by the Federal Aviation Administration and is ranked among the nation’s busiest general aviation airports.
