Task Force To Monitor Colorado River For Impaired Boat Operators

While DUI task forces have had a busy holiday weekend, this coming weekend a different task force will be monitoring the Colorado River.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department will be joining forces with the Nevada Department of Wildlife and National Park Service to monitor boaters for impairment. They’ll be checking to ensure operators are not above the legal limit for OUI (operating under the influence), which is a blood alcohol content of 0.08 — the same as it is for drivers.

Boaters may be required to pass through an OUI checkpoint where operators will be checked for any sign of impairment from alcohol or drugs, and to ensure the required safety equipment, such as proper life jackets and working fire extinguishers, are aboard.

The agencies will be monitoring the Colorado River this Friday to Sunday.
