Many Arizona Kids At Risk Of Going Hungry When School's Out For Summer

One in four Arizona kids is at risk of going hungry.

That’s according to Jose Urteaga with St. Mary’s Food Bank. Urteaga said the summer food service program will once again provide meals to kids over the next few months.

“We have a lot of kiddos that rely on breakfast and lunch during the school year, and we work hard to provide this bridge to get them through the summer," Urteaga said.

About six in 10 kids eat free or reduced lunch meals, according to the Association of Arizona Food Banks.

Urteaga said they expect to serve close to 8,000 meals each day but that number could go as high as 10,000.
