Pipe Construction In Downtown Phoenix To Shut Down Sections Of Roosevelt Street

A new water pipeline in downtown Phoenix will cause sections of Roosevelt Street to be closed this summer starting Tuesday. The construction zone will span from Seventh Avenue to First Avenue.

Darlene Helm with Phoenix’s Water Civil Engineering said the city is being proactive by replacing the current 1908 infrastructure.

“What's anticipated right now is that in the first phase, there’ll be that sign that says ‘road closed local traffic only,’ but you'll be able to head eastbound in a one-way lane from Seventh Avenue through that first segment to Fifth Avenue, then the street will be open from Fifth Avenue on,” Helm said.

Although the pipeline project is expected to finish in August, construction and traffic in the area will likely continue for future paving project to follow.
