As debate about the border and the status of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. rages on, only 11 individuals were prosecuted for hiring undocumented workers in the past year. Three received jail time.
When it comes to companies hiring undocumented workers, none were prosecuted. That’s according to Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse.
This is in light of programs like E-Verify, which became state law in Arizona in 2008, and it highlights long made calls for immigration reform from the business community.
So why — even as the Trump administration cracks down on illegal immigration at the border and increasingly deports undocumented immigrants already living here — are employers rarely held accountable?
