Among Final Bills, Ducey Approves Added Hurdles For Citizens' Initiatives

One of the final bills Gov. Doug Ducey signed into law, as the deadline hit this weekend, tightened the rules even further for citizens' initiatives.

The law already required paid circulators register with the Secretary of State's office.

With his signature, Ducey has confirmed that both paid and volunteer petition circulators must submit a notarized affidavit proving they have no felony convictions or faced civil or criminal penalties related to an elections offense.

Petitioners must also provide a valid home address, phone number and an email.

Opponents say the new law will make it more difficult for citizens to challenge poor public policy or elected officials.
