Arizona Farmers Buzzing Over Legal Hemp

Hemp can be used for a variety of products from clothes to rope.

Industrial hemp is legal in Arizona. That follows President Trump’s signing of the 2018 Farm Bill, which moved hemp out of the category of illegal substances.

But rules are still being finalized here, and farmers are considering whether to add hemp to crops they’re already growing. There’s a buzz around the crop, and a number of farmers have already applied to have it on their land.

To find out why hemp is both exciting and daunting for Arizona’s agricultural sector, The Show spoke to Chelsea McGuire, director of government relations for the Arizona Farm Bureau.
