Tonto Forest Officials Impose Fire Restrictions

Fire restrictions in the Tonto National Forest went into effect Saturday as the weather heats up.

Smoking is now banned outside of specific areas listed on the Tonto National Forest website, and officials are asking smokers to make sure they don’t throw cigarette butts on the ground. Carrie Templin with the U.S. Forest Service said visitors are still permitted to light campfires but under very specific conditions.

“In order to have a campfire, you need to be in one of the developed campgrounds and recreation sites that are actually listed on the Tonto National Forest website," Templin said.

Templin also said target shooting is completely off-limits during the fire restrictions.
