Adaptive Cruise Control Still Tailgates Human Cognition

In the seemingly never-ending debate over whether computers are better drivers than people, new research shows, at least for now, we may still have a slight edge on the machines.

A team of researchers rented a number of cars with adaptive cruise control in Phoenix and Tucson and brought them to Pima County to see how well they were able to prevent phantom traffic jams.

Dan Work is a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Vanderbilt University and helped lead the research. He joined The Show to talk about what they found.
