The Arizona Department of Corrections reported that water service at the Yuma prison was fully restored to all units and conservation measures had been lifted.
In a statement issued Monday evening, ADC said, "Storage tank water levels have been replenished as a result of the successful replacement of the first pump earlier today. Work to replace the second pump will continue and is expected to be completed on Tuesday."
ADC said the state prison in Yuma had employed "water conservation measures" after two pumps failed and limited the amount of water that could be drawn from wells on site.
As a result, the department limited water services to housing units. Department spokesman Andrew Wilder said some inmates did not have access to showers, sinks, toilets and laundry.
"Bottled drinking water is being distributed and available to all inmates, visitors and staff," Wilder said. "Portable toilets and hand sanitation is in place as well."
This is the second state prison to experience water problems this month.
In the first week of June, the main water supply was out for several days at the Douglas prison after problems with the well and pipes.
