Mountain Fire Near Cave Creek Approaching Total Containment

The Mountain Fire east of Cave Creek is 76 percent contained.

Lakes near the fire are open again for recreation activities. Bartlett Dam Lake and Horseshoe Lake are now once again open to the public after being closed so firefighters could conduct containment operations.

Carrie Templin with the U.S. Forest Service says there are a few reasons why the Mountain Fire was easier to contain than the Woodbury Fire, which is still ablaze near Superior.

“The difference with Mountain is that it is in lower elevation terrain, a little bit flatter and much more accessible by road," Templin said.

Templin said she expects the Mountain Fire to be completely contained by the end of Monday. The fire was first reported less than two weeks ago and is believed to be human-caused.
