Soccer games for the Sonoran team Cimarrones FC will air live on TV in Phoenix and 12 other U.S. cities this year.
It’s the first time the team’s games will be shown in the U.S., said Mayra Veliz, Cimarrones marketing director.
“There are a lot of people living in the U.S, and we’re really conscious of that,” she said. “We hope to increase our transmission of games so that more people can watch. And maybe it won’t just be Sonorans, but Mexicans in general that live and work in the U.S,” Veliz said.
Airing the games on U.S. TV stations is way of sending a little piece of home to Sonorans living abroad, she said. And it could be a chance to pick up some new followers north of the border, too.
The Cimarrones are part of the Mexican Liga de Ascenso, or second-tier professional soccer teams.
The next seasons for the Cimarrones starts on July 25. Phoenix fans can watch the team’s games on the channel NuestraVisión with commentary in English or Spanish, Veliz said.
