Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey and Sonoran Gov. Claudia Pavlovich penned joint letters this week urging “both our countries to refocus national efforts on ratifying the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.”
That’s the name of the renegotiated NAFTA trade deal.
To Glenn Hamer, the head of Arizona’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Spanish and English letters signal, “the urgency of getting this trade deal done now,” he said.
The governors also applauded the binational deal that averted the imposition of tariffs on Mexican imports threatened by President Donald Trump in late May. Tariffs would harm what they described as the two states’ strong trade relationship.
The recent agreement could also serve as, “a stepping stone to move forward on trade,” one of the letters reads.
