Gov. Doug Ducey on Friday signed into law a bill that would begin a data-gathering process on women in Arizona who died during and after childbirth.
Dr. Rahul Gupta with March of Dimes said ethnicity and race can often be a determining factor in whether a mother will survive childbirth or not.

“If you’re an African-American woman or a Native American or Latino-American, your likelihood of dying is much higher than if you’re a white American woman," Gupta said.
The bill Ducey signed is known as Arianna’s Law. When Ducey signed it, he said he hoped it would play a small part in changing America’s status as the deadliest country in the developed world for women giving birth.
