The U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee is discussing where the country’s nuclear waste should end up.
The current list of sites are all in Southwest states including Texas, New Mexico and Nevada.
Scientists, environmentalists and Nuclear Energy Institute leaders will testify, as they did when the Obama administration chose to halt development at the Yucca Mountain site in Nevada.
The Trump administration supports restarting the process there and at private facilities in New Mexico and West Texas.
