After a day-long closure Monday due to a utility outage, the Maricopa County Superior Court system in downtown Phoenix location will reopen Tuesday.
A spokesman for the court said people with hearings originally scheduled for Monday should contact their attorneys for new dates. Court dates set for Tuesday will continue as normal.
The Maricopa County Superior Court system was one of several public agencies impacted Monday after a Sunday night fire and explosion that resulted in the death of an Arizona Public Safety worker and the injury of another.
A steady stream of people with business at the courts in downtown Phoenix on Monday morning found the doors locked when they arrived. Robert Velasquez was hoping to print out some sealed court documents.
“My daughter, she lives in Texas and she’s wanting to move back home with me you know her father so I’m just getting some paperwork set up," said Velasquez.
APS is still working on returning power to the last remaining buildings impacted by Sunday night’s fire.
The County Administration Building on Jefferson Street is among them. All other county buildings in downtown Phoenix are expected to be open to the public.
The administrative building houses the County Attorney, Treasurer, Assessor, Board of Supervisors and executive offices.
Employees will work off-site on Tuesday. Arizona Superior Court at Second Avenue and Jefferson Street reopens Tuesday.
