Emergency Response Team Assessing Woodbury Fire Damage

The Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team is still working to assess the damage from the Woodbury Fire, which burned nearly 194 square miles.

The team includes archaeologists, soil scientists and wildlife experts. Team spokeswoman Sarah Gracey said they’re working to create a burn intensity map.

“The BAER team will use this soil burn severity map and the collected data and they will model changes in soil erosion and water flow from the burn area and they will make post-fire recommendations to any response needs," Gracey said.

Those responses could include mulching, seeding or keeping human foot traffic out of the area so the land can recover.

As of last night, the Woodbury Fire was 90 percent contained. State Route 88 remains closed from Tortilla Flat to Roosevelt Lake.
