Teachers in the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) will see bigger paychecks this year.

Renee Weatherless with TUSD’s finance office said first-year teacher salaries will start at more than $40,000 in the 2020 fiscal year.

“When you look at comparisons between our district and other districts [near Tucson]," Weatherless said, "typically our average teacher salary has been higher. When you look at it statewide, it’s a little different. The markets are different."

TUSD teachers go back to work on July 29, and the new school year starts Aug. 1.
