Members of Arizona’s congressional delegation are split on party lines when it comes to anticipated Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids ordered by President Trump to begin Sunday.
Republican Paul Gosar said the raids are necessary to follow the law.
"These are people who have exhausted their legal remedies to be in this country. People don’t realize that. They’ve had their day in court. They failed to meet the standards, and they gotta go home," Gosar said.
But Democrat Ruben Gallego criticized the planned raids, saying they aren’t aimed at the dangerous criminals Trump has previously invoked at his rallies.
"Because this is all about just inducing terror and raising numbers, they’re not going to go after hard-core criminals, drug dealers, the coyotes, the rapists, people that are criminal elements in that community," Gallego said.
No cities in Arizona are currently listed among those believed to be targeted for the raids.
