The Phoenix Police Department has now equipped more than half of its patrol officers with body cameras.

The Central City Precinct is the latest to be outfitted with Axon body cameras. The additional 102 cameras brings the department’s total up to 1,051.

Officers are required to activate the cameras when they receive a call for service or engage in any enforcement actions such as vehicle stops and witness interviews.

Phoenix police is in the midst of a  $5.7 million five-year contract with Axon Enterprise. The department also had to hire more than two dozen new people to manage and process the video footage.

Phoenix began rolling out the cameras in February and expects to finish by the end of summer.
