The owners of Turf Paradise in Phoenix won’t stand in the way of a new law that offers financial help for Arizona Downs. That law is supposed to provide teletrack signals for off-track betting (OTB).
But those signals from several out-of-state race tracks actually belong to Monarch Content Management Company, which has provided them to Turf Paradise for years, along with its own off track betting sites
Scott Daruty told Capitol Media Services his company has no interest in sharing those signals with the Arizona Downs in Prescott.
"Let's put it this way," Daruty said. "There's a contract in place that requires me to sell my signal to Turf Paradise and its OTBs. If the state of Arizona is saying it passed a law which makes that contract unenforceable, then I'm going to wait for the state of Arizona to notify me of that fact."
Daruty said the new state law requires providing the teletrack signal to all sites including Arizona Downs and Turf Paradise — or provide it to no one. He declined to elaborate on the company’s litigation options.
A spokeswoman for Arizona Downs said they are bringing in new wagering money and not siphoning it off from Turf Paradise or other off track betting sites.
