Arizona Corporation Commission Approves Capital Improvement Plan For Johnson Utilities

The Arizona Corporation Commission has approved a new capital improvement plan for Johnson Utilities.

The troubled water and wastewater service utility has been under interim management for nearly a year.

The commission appointed EPCOR to take over management of the utility in August 2018 after customers complained of low water pressure and sewage overflows.

After reviewing Johnson’s infrastructure, EPCOR is calling for more than $129 million in capital improvements that are needed to provide safe and adequate service to customers.

The proposed projects include the expansion of two treatment facilities and construction of a new wastewater treatment plant.

Commissioner Justin Olson voted in favor of what he called the beginning of an important effort," to ensure we bring enough wells online,  and that there is sufficient water to meet the demands of current residents to allow for those that will continue to build in the area.”

Johnson Utilities now has 30 days to come up with a plan to pay for the improvements.
