Multiple Freeway Closures In Phoenix Area This Weekend

Portions of Phoenix-area freeways will be crowded with construction and maintenance workers this weekend as crews work on upgrades to five different sections of Interstate 10, Loop 101, Loop 202 and U.S. 60 in Tempe.

Major Closures

The most significant closures are on the I-10 in West Phoenix and two sections of Loop 101. Interstate 10 west will be closed between 51st and 59th avenues as crews construct the interchange for the new South Mountain Freeway. The ramps at 27th, 35th, and 43rd avenues will also be closed for a widening project.

Eastbound Loop 101 Pima Portion will be closed from Seventh Avenue to Seventh Street for bridge repairs. Ramps in this area, including those connecting from I-17, will be closed.

In the East Valley, northbound Loop 101 Price Freeway will be closed from Warner Road to the U.S. 60. To get around the closures, drivers can use the frontage road, as well as McClintock Drive and Dobson Road.

These closures will last all weekend, and the freeways will reopen Monday at 5 a.m.

Minor Closures

In Mesa, Loop 202 Santan Freeway will be closed at Power Road from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., reopening at 5 a.m. on Monday. Traffic will be able to detour using the ramps at Power Road.

On Sunday morning, one section of U.S. 60 in Tempe will see brief rolling closures as Cox Communications does overhead utility line work. DPS Troopers will stop traffic for up to 15 minutes at a time to allow the crews to work.
