On Friday, Hacienda HealthCare announced it plans to close the Hacienda Children’s Hospital. But Hacienda did not tell the state about its plans.
The news that the 24-bed hospital would close after all of the patients were discharged came as a surprise to the Arizona Department of Health Services. DHS confirmed to KJZZ that it was not notified of the closure.
In a statement, Hacienda’s interim CEO Perry Petrilli said, “Hacienda HealthCare doesn’t have a surplus revenue to sustain Hacienda Children’s Hospital in the face of difficult circumstances.”
Hacienda has been under fire after a young woman was raped at its intermediate care facility. She later gave birth to a baby boy late last year. The man accused of raping her was her caregiver.
