The newspaper industry is on the cusp of undergoing another dramatic change, and this one would directly affect Arizona residents and journalists.
Gannett, the owner of the Arizona Republic and USA Today among others, is reportedly deep in talks with GateHouse to merge into one company. It’s a step that would likely help more publications stay alive, but how many layoffs would follow? And what kind of impact would it have on the kinds of stories and number of stories that get published?
