The National Weather Service issued another excessive heat warning for Monday in central Phoenix as temperatures flirt with highs around 110.
Meteorologists predict it will peak on Tuesday then drop a few degrees with a chance for rain as the week evolves.
On Saturday, the high hit a record 114 under what meteorologist Chris Kulhman called a "perfect storm" for storms.
"Storms along the rim to the north and storms to the south and both of those sets of storms generated outflow boundaries which is kind of like a mini-front and they collided over the Phoenix area," he explained.
He said Flagstaff is also experiencing unusually warm weather, with highs on Tuesday expected in the mid-80s. Chances for rain north of the Rim should hover around 30% for most of the week.
