US Census Workers Begin Verifying Data For Ramp Up To 2020 Census

The Census Bureau begins collecting data around the country in one week.

In Cochise County, for instance, residents have been notified to to expect seeing the first wave of official workers collecting data for the 2020 census.

They'll begin with verifying existing data such as household addresses. When they approach, residents can verify if they are legitimate Census workers.

"They're going to have an official ID badge on them, which will have their photograph on it," said Amanda Baillie with the county. "It will also have a Department of Commerce watermark and also an expiration date."

Workers will also carry a bag with a Census Bureau logo and a letter-of-purpose on official letterhead.

Residents who want to verify the worker further may ask for their supervisor's name and contact or look up the name on the Census Bureau's website.
