The number of high school students who use e-cigarettes is on the rise, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Now, Tucson city leaders are considering an ordinance that would raise the age to buy tobacco products from 18 to 21.
On Tuesday, Tucson’s mayor and City Council will vote on an initiative that would raise the age to buy tobacco products to 21.
It would also categorize e-cigarettes and other nicotine delivery systems as “tobacco products.”
And it would create a joint license enforcement program that would regulate tobacco sales within Tucson and Pima County. Cottonwood and Douglas have also raised the tobacco sales age to 21.
