Gov. Doug Ducey is promoting the deputy director of the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS). Mike Faust will be they agency’s next leader, replacing Greg McKay, who is leaving to work for an Arizona nonprofit.

A former aerospace and manufacturing manager, Faust is credited with helping DCS reduce the number of kids in foster care.

Beth Rosenberg of Children’s Action Alliance says his business acumen has improved the agency in many areas.

"He came to the department four years ago with a lot of business experience and efficiency looking at how the business operations work and has opened up accountability for the department," Rosenberg said.

Rosenberg said the department still faces higher caseloads in certain parts of the state and must do a better job providing in-home family services to prevent children from coming into foster care.
