The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved $2 million to help reduce homelessness in the county. The county is actively trying to collaborate with suburban cities, which are seeing the most growth of homeless populations.
Bruce Liggett, Maricopa County director Of Human Services, said they’re seeking a diverse range of solutions.
"We say 'what’s the problem?', and 'do you have other options?', and 'can we assist you connecting with family or friends or neighbors?'" Liggett said. "Maybe some one-time payments, can we divert you out of homelessness? We’re trying to do prevention, diversion, shelter, quick housing placement. There’s not just one solution."
Money from this program will also be spent to improve the pre-release programs in the Maricopa County jails to help prevent homelessness among recently released inmates.
