A recent 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision involving a Mexican woman in Arizona said people can be removed from the United States after being convicted.
Court documents said Eva Isabel Gonzalez Romo had a green card when she was convicted in Arizona of solicitation to possess marijuana for sale.
When Gonzalez got out of prison, she traveled to Mexico and was detained when she tried to return to the U.S.
An immigration judge and the Board of Immigration Appeals said the kind of crime she committed meant that she could not stay in the U.S.
The 9th Circuit said that decision was fair.
