Arizona Public Service has settled with the family of a Sun City woman who died last September after her power was shut off by the state’s largest utility on a 107 degree day.
Seventy-two-year-old Stephanie Pullman died after APS shut off her power for a $51 debt.
Media reports of her death sparked outrage and led regulators to ban utilities from shutting off customers’ power between June 1 and Oct. 15.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed to the public, and APS did not immediately respond to a request by KJZZ for a statement.
APS CEO Don Brandt announced last week that he will retire in November.
But regulators want him to testify at a public hearing soon and answer questions as they continue to investigate Pullman’s death.
