MEXICO CITY — The new ambassador of the U.S. in Mexico officially started his duties. He’s been meeting with Mexican authorities with a main topic: binational security.
Christopher Landau presented his credentials as U.S. ambassador to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Monday.
López Obrador requested Landau’s support to end xenophobic violence in the U.S. after the El Paso attacks in early August, where eight Mexican citizens were killed.
Landau met on Tuesday with the Mexican secretaries of Foreign Affairs and of Security.
According to a statement from the Mexican government, Landau and the secretaries agreed that organized crime can’t be fought by just one country and that violence can be stopped by bringing development.
Landau became the U.S. ambassador in Mexico more than a year after Roberta Jacobson stepped down.
