When a police officer commits a violation and faces discipline, there are a number of requirements for how long that mark remains in a personnel file. For relatively minor items, the violation may stay for up to three years. For others, five years could be the standard.
But recent reporting by Justin Price at the Arizona Republic indicates some Phoenix police officer discipline records have been purged earlier than they should, which means officers often keep their positions or even get promoted, despite multiple offenses.
