A wildfire burning in northern Arizona has burned more than 7,000 acres.
A lightning strike started the Ikes Fire near the Grand Canyon on the Kaibab Plateau in late July.
“The resource objectives include reducing hazardous fuels, promoting forest regeneration. It improves wildlife habitat, and restoring a more open forest understory. These objectives will lead to a healthier and more resilient landscape," said Brandalyn Vonk with the National Park Service.
Vonk says this fire doesn’t pose a threat to any structures and helps the ecosystem.
The incident team is using a variety of methods to confine the fire within the predetermined area.
