River Fire Near New River Has Burned 3,000 Acres

A wildfire burning near Tonto National Forest continues to grow.

The River Fire near New River has burned 3,000 acres as of Friday.

Carrie Templin with the Tonto National Forest said, “The fact that we have very low humidity and high heat. You know and a little bit of winds when afternoon thunderstorms attempt to build is giving us a little bit of a challenge working on this fire and getting into it.”

Templin said several roads are closed. The fire is zero percent contained.
