The trial of humanitarian aid worker Scott Warren captured headlines around the country earlier this summer, but despite the government’s claim that Warren had illegally helped border crossers evade immigration authorities in Arizona’s borderlands, his trial ended in a hung jury in June.
As the trial played out, though, information about the investigation that led to his arrest was hard to come by. A journalist with The Intercept, in particular, hit a roadblock trying to get access to that information with the court.
It was the perfect kind of public records case for the First Amendment Clinic at ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. The Show sat down with Executive Director Gregg Leslie to find out why did the First Amendment Clinic got involved.
