Permits to visit the Wave, the famed natural rock formation known for it's swirling bands of sandstone in a range of white and red hues, can be hard to come by. The Bureau of Land Management currently limits access to the hiking trail to 20 visitors a day.
A preliminary environmental assessment report from the Bureau of Land Management includes two proposals that increases the amount of permits granted, raising the maximum number of daily visitors to 48 or 96.
The BLM is seeking comments from the public on the proposals, which include upgrading parking and restroom facilities as well as installing markers on the trail to prevent hikers from wandering off.
Public comments can be made through the Bureau of Land Management's ePlanning page for the Paria Canyon - Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness project. The comments process ends Oct. 12.
