Surprise is now the second Dementia Friendly City in Arizona.

Tempe was the first dementia friendly community in Arizona. And on Tuesday, the city of Surprise announced it’s joining the movement.

Surprise is now the second Dementia Friendly City in the state, which means Surprise will partner with aging experts and organizations to provide a free, bimonthly Memory Café, as well as community events.

The goal is to try and help educate residents about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

The cafes will serve as a place where people who are living with the disease and their caregivers can go for support.

The number of people living with Alzheimer’s disease in Arizona is expected to grow 43% by 2025, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.
