Goodyear Considers Raising Vape Purchase Age To 21

Goodyear’s City Council will vote on a new ordinance Monday that would restrict the sale and use of e-cigarettes used to smoke tobacco. It would also raise the purchase age for such from 18 to 21.

Under the proposed law, businesses would face a $20,000 fine if they violate the law.

City Councilmember Sheri Lauritano says she agrees with the proposed ordinance because it’s aimed at protecting younger people like her own two high schoolers.

“They know exactly where and who’s getting it and how they’re getting it. Because these businesses know where the kids are, they’re by the places the kids hang out, and they’re selling them to the kids.”

If the new ordinance passes, Goodyear would become the third Arizona city to raise the tobacco purchase age to 21.
