A tornado warning was issued for parts of the north Valley early Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
The warning, which was in effect until 12:45 p.m, extended to the Cave Creek, Carefree and Camp Creek areas. After the warning expired, NWS officials said an isolated tornado in the area was still possible, as well as strong winds, heavy rain and hail.
Also around noon, NWS warned in a tweet of a “very strong storm across the north Valley, especially I-17 near Anthem.”
A flash flood warning is in effect through Tuesday morning.
The storm, which moved into the Valley late Sunday night, dumped more than 2 inches of rain on Apache Junction and Fountain Hills. The Mesa Fire Department rescued one motorist whose SUV was overcome by flood waters.
