U.S. Senate Nixes Emergency Border Declaration

The U.S. Senate passed a measure Wednesday blocking President Donald Trump from using emergency declaration powers to use money intended for military bases to pay for building a border fence.

Eleven Republicans joined Democratic senators to reject the president’s efforts on a vote of 54-41.

The Democratic-controlled House is expected to pass the measure.

Trump has vowed to veto the effort just as he did last March.

Nearly $4 billion intended for use on the country’s military bases is currently intended to pay for rapidly rising border fence projects along the U.S.-Mexico border.
