Cooler Phoenix Weather Brings Increase In Hiker Rescues

Just because cooler high temperatures are present in the Valley with the arrival of fall, Phoenix Fire Department is advising hikers not to let those conditions fool them into a false sense of security.

Fire Captain Danny Gile said even with high temperatures only in the 90s, hiker rescues increase.

"We start to see our out-of-town visitors starting to come down in the next month or two," he said. "Some are here early. But 90 [degrees] can still zap you, especially if you’ve done a good job avoiding most of the heat for most of the summer."

There were at least two hikers rescued Saturday. One was a young boy wearing inadequate footwear.
