Tonto National Forest Is Increasing Campground Fees

Starting October 1st, fees for campgrounds in the Tonto National Forest will increase by as much as $8 per vehicle.

According to the Forest Service, 95% of visitors preferred increased fees over reduced services, like trash cans, toilets, and parking.

Users "Understand the need to increase some fees in order to continue to provide recreational opportunities on one of the most visited national forests in the country," the Forest Service said in a release. "These changes are being implemented to assist the Tonto National Forest maintain and improve the level of service provided at recreation sites on the Tonto National Forest."

The Forest Service will be installing new fee payment machines at campgrounds. Typical fees under the new schedule range from $16 to $25 per vehicle.
