A Mountain Pointe High School coach who shared player information with other teams has been fired. Justin Hager is charged with violating governing board policies.
Hager is charged with unprofessional conduct and improper use of district technology. The Tempe Union High School District Governing Board voted unanimously to dismiss him on Wednesday.
Hager resigned in mid-September, following a district investigation. The board chose not to accept his resignation and move forward with formal charges.
A district investigation found Hager sent emails with game strategies and player eligibility records to a number of opposing coaches.
Hager was both a teacher and a coach for Mountain Pointe — varsity coach for the girls basketball team and an assistant coach for the football team.
Principal Tomika Banks says the "students, families and staff are heartbroken" after learning Hager may have compromised championship games and scholarships by leaking information against the football and boys basketball teams dating back to 2017.
