New Tempe Apartment Project Limits Renters Younger Than 21

An apartment complex planned for downtown Tempe could be inviting legal trouble with a proposed plan to limit renters under 21.

That raises questions of discrimination and confusion about whether it could apply to families with children or just the college students the complex is trying to largely avoid.

But why is the complex proposing this to begin with? Consider this: The average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Tempe is nearly $1,400. Could this unusual proposal be a solution to Tempe’s housing cost problem?

To talk about this plan, The Show reached out to Paulina Pineda of The Arizona Republic.
