Lawsuit: Tucson City Leaders Trying To Influence Sanctuary City Vote

The proponents of an initiative to make Tucson a so-called sanctuary city have sued city leaders contending they’re unfairly trying to influence the election.

The lawsuit hinges on a letter city officials sent to voters last week laying out negative impacts of becoming a sanctuary city.

The questions raised included: could Proposition 205 have a broader impact on public safety? And it loosely warns that Tucson police could lose more than $12 million in federal funding.

Proposition 205 supporters pointed to statements by City Council members voicing their positions against the initiative.

Just this week, Tucson mailed out ballots for the general election.
