University Of Arizona Researchers: Blood Pressure Drug Can Help Heart Failure Patients

New results from the University of Arizona show the drug Aliskiren can delay the progression of congestive heart failure. The medicine is usually prescribed to regulate blood pressure.

More than 5 million Americans live with congestive heart failure. The chronic condition occurs when the heart muscle doesn’t pump blood the way it’s supposed to.

Aliskiren has been shown for the first time in pre-clinical studies to improve the quality of life and extend survival rates of some heart failure patients.

Heart failure causes progressive muscle wasting and fluid retention, which leads to discomfort, shortness of breath and fatigue.
