More than 40 people died indoors in Maricopa County last year from heat-related causes. Most had electricity but did not have functioning air conditioners.
Many people use fans to cool off when air conditioning isn’t an option, but government guidelines recommend not using fans when the temperature is above 95 degrees. Now, new research suggests electric fans can be beneficial when it’s hot and humid, but not necessarily when its hot and dry.
Nathan Morris is the author of the study published this summer in the Annals of International Medicine. Morris is an integrative physiology researcher in the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports at the University of Copenhagen.
The Show spoke to Morris and asked him about the study.
