The death of Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings is being felt here in Maricopa County.
Dr. Karen Harden, president of the Maricopa County NAACP, said Cummings represented the best of American politics.
“Being a person of integrity, he always seemed like he was always working for the truth and did not let his personal opinions drive what was better for the greater good of the country,” Harden said.
Cummings, who died at age 68 from complications from long-standing medical issues on Thursday, represented the primarily black 7th District in Baltimore, which President Trump called a "disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess” in July.
